A device created or adapted for the purpose of making musical sounds. In principle, any object that produces sound can serve as a musical instrument—it is through purpose that the object becomes a musical instrument.
 
The history of musical instruments dates back to the beginnings of human culture. The purpose of early musical instruments was ritual: a hunter might use a trumpet to signal success on the hunt, or a shaman might use a drum in a religious ceremony. Cultures later developed the processes of composing and performing melodies for entertainment. Musical instruments evolved in step with changing applications.  
 
Musical instruments are widely used all over the world.  Musical instruments are devices humans use to create musical sounds. Adults and even children use it for entertainment, to inspire, and to enhance their talents and musical skills. Some also use it for sharing their talents and skills which we often see in popular websites like YouTube and Facebook. It can entertain different people all over the world. And, it can change lives . By listening or making music using musical instruments, it can make yourself more happier and feel less depressed. It can be classified into groups namely:
 
 
 

Woodwind instrument

 
Woodwind instruments produce sound by a vibrating column of air, either using a reed or a musician’s lips. Most wind instruments have keys or fingerholes to vary the pitch of the sound.
 
 
 
 
 
Flute It’s tube is made of wood or silver. Along the tube are six holes for the fingers and fourteen keys which open other holes stopped by keys. It’s mouthpiece is a hole at the side. It’s tone is clear and sweet.
 
                                      
 
 
 
 
 
 

Piccolo  is a half-size flute, and a member of the wind family of musical instruments. The piccolo is the smaller relative of the flute. It is exactly the same in all respects — notes and fingerings — but is a lot smaller than the flute. The piccolo has most of the same fingerings as its larger sibling, the standard transverse flute, but the sound it produces is an octave higher than the standard transverse flute.

 
 
 
 
 

Clarinet is a single reed instrument. It plays a wide range of music from classical to jazz. It also has a very wide range of notes that can be played.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Percussion Instrument

A instrument that creates sound by tapping, beating, striking, shaking, or scraping the instruments by a stick or with bare hands. Percussion instruments gives dhythmic support and dramatic effect to any piece of music. The percussion family is believed to include the oldest musical instruments.

Snare Drum  This drum has a skin stretched over each end of a wood or metal frame. It is played with two sticks. It has only one tone and so is used only for rhythm.

Brass Instruments

It consists of the wind instruments made of brass. Some of these instruments were not made of this fine alloy. It is a musical instrument that produces sound by sympathetic vibration of air in a tubular resonator in sympathy with the vibration of the player’s lips. Brass instruments are also called “labrosones”, literally meaning “lip-vibrated instruments.”
 
 
 
 
 
 

French Horn  This horn is made of brass, with a twelve-feet tube curved around. The player blows into a mouthpiece. The sound comes out of the bell at the other end. Valves help to make different tones. The sound of the French Horn is soft and pure.

 
 
 
 
 
 

Trombone The middle section of the brass tube of the trombone slides in and out to make different tones. It’s tone is rich and strong.

 
 
 
 
 
 

Saxophone This popular instrument of today is not accepted in symphony orchestras. It is made of brass, has a reed mouthpiece and many keys. It’s tone is mellow.

Stringed Instruments

 
Stringed instruments are the highest form of musical instruments. They  produce sound from vibrating strings. String instruments may be played with or without a bow.   All string instruments produce sound from one or more vibrating strings, transferred to the air by the body of the instrument.  They are usually categorized by the technique used to make the strings vibrate  The three most common techniques are plucking, bowing and striking.

Violin  The violin is made of wood. It has four strings. The highest string is often made of steel. The violin has a range of four octaves. It is the most important instrument in the orchestra. The bow is made of wood and horse hair.

 

Guitar  The guitar is a plucked string instrument, usually played with fingers or a pick. The guitar consists of a body with a rigid neck, to which the strings, generally six in number, are attached. Guitars are traditionally constructed of various woods and strung with animal gut or, more recently, with either nylon or steel strings.

 
 
 
 
 
 
Harp  The harp has forty-seven strings made of gut which are plucked by hand. C strings are red and F strings are blue to help the player. It has seven pedals to shift the pitch into any key. It’s music is written like piano music.
